Hey there, I’m Susan Fairbairn — a horticultural journalist with a knack for storytelling and a passion for crafting ceramic pots and mounts for orchids. Armed with a degree in communications specialising in PR and journalism, I’ve spent decades writing about the plant world and I’m still not done.
If you fancy adding a touch of unique charm to your orchid collection, check out my small batches of custom-designed Orchid Pots n Jewels™️ and mounts for sale.
They can be posted anywhere in Australia or you can pick up from my studio in Cardwell — conveniently located just off the Bruce Highway between Townsville and Cairns. Stopping here is an experience in itself with breathtaking views of the Coral Sea and Hinchinbrook Island, plus plenty of lovely eateries. Why not make a day of it?
The Growing Side of Things
Behind the pots and mounts is a genuine decade-long love affair with orchids. As a qualified horticulturalist I’ve spent over ten years growing, observing, and learning from these extraordinary plants — and I believe that experience makes a real difference to the quality of advice you’ll find on this blog.
The Little Flower Business blog exists to make good horticultural information accessible to everyone, whether you’re potting up your very first orchid or you’ve been growing for years. My articles are written from hands-on experience, backed by horticultural training, and crafted with the same care I put into every pot that leaves my studio.
I’m also a proud member of the Horticultural Media Association Australia (HMAA) — the peak body representing horticultural journalists, writers, and content creators across Australia — which reflects my commitment to producing content that is accurate, well researched, and genuinely useful to the growing community.
