Noun

The initial stage of orchid embryo development following seed germination. A small, spherical or ovoid mass of undifferentiated cells that forms before the emergence of leaves or roots. Protocorms are typically colourless or pale green and rely on symbiotic fungi or artificial nutrients for growth until they develop chlorophyll-producing tissues.
