Pseudocopulation

Home / glossary / Pseudocopulation

Pseudocopulation is a form of pollination deception employed by certain orchid species. These orchids have evolved to mimic the appearance and scent of female insects, thereby fooling male insects into attempting to mate with the flower. In the process, the male insect transfers pollen from one orchid to another, facilitating pollination.
