Orchid care tips in the tropics is simple. Evergreen orchids will still put on growth during winter. In fact they can be at their best this time of the year, especially if you increase the light levels.
Some will have formed buds ready for flowering. What can you do to promote and continue to care for your orchids?
TIP ONE: Move your orchids into a position where they will receive more sunshine. If they have been sheltering in a shady position out of the hot summer sun this may get too dark and wet in winter and cause rots. Be careful to acclimatise slowly as plants can still burn.
TIP TWO: Water less, particularly pots. However, mounts may still need watering at least every other day if not daily.
TIP THREE: Tidy up your orchid plants by trimming off the dead wood and removing damaged leaves.
TIP FOUR: Keep up the fertiliser, especially if your plant is putting on new growth.
