Orchid hugs are ceramic orchid mounts, stamped with Australian motifs, wiped with a magnesium wash and then fired to temperature in an electric kiln. They come with or without twisted aluminum rope to hang them. Or you can use fishing wire to DIY.
They can come in different sizes but generally the largest ones are about 39cm. Because they hang and are portable they are fantastic when you need to bring your orchids under cover for any reason. Here in Far North Queensland I often have to move orchids out of weather, especially during monsoons or cyclone seasons.
They are suitable for any tropical (epiphytic or lithophytic) orchid but work best for small to medium sized species. You can certainly mount larger species but they will eventually outgrow the hug. Of course you can always prune them back.
Give yourself or someone you love an orchid hug and help them transform those ugly pots into something special for their collection.
